LON Gallery proudly presents Tia Ansell's fourth solo exhibition with the gallery, Duality.
Duality introduces a new method and conceptual material to Ansell’s practice. Imbuing the fragmented forms, shadows and reflections of the built environment into Japanese organza, Ansell layers these ghostly traces onto her idiosyncratic hand-woven, gridded surfaces. This process mirrors the way in which built environments accumulate traces, often absorbed into a city’s ever-transforming and developing shape. The resulting artworks resist fixed readings, oscillating between image and object, transparency and opacity.
Ansell’s weavings translate the material systems of architectural and urban spaces into woven surfaces, revealing repetition as designed rhythm and labour. Through this new development, Ansell contemplates these same spaces through their historical marks, their light and shade, and the stratified and patterned habitation of these spaces.
